I recently took Lifehacker’s advice and set up some keyword bookmarks. The basic premise is you can set up Firefox bookmarks to take you straight to webpages by only typing in a few letters into the address bar. Furthermore, you can customize it to do searches in Google or go straight to certain pages. For instance, type “maps Kennedy School” in your browser and this can return a Local Google search for Kennedy School in my zip code. I think that’s awesome. I can’t tell you how much it has already helped me in two days.
The problem is when I want to remember what some of these shortcuts are, I have to stop and think, or open up my bookmarks and sort through them. So, instead I took a screen grab of a list of my bookmarks with the keyboard shortcuts visible, and set that entire image to my background. Now, I just show my desktop (hit F12 on a Mac) and can get a quick reminder. I’ll probably leave it there for a few days then eventually put up a new image to help me remember something else. Probably the keyboard shortcuts for Google’s updated Reader application.
